About the Program

The Joint Master's programme CREOLE – Cultural Differences and Transnational Processes at the University of Vienna provides an in-depth understanding of the interweaving of local lifeworlds with transnational and global processes from a social and cultural anthropological perspective. In three core subject areas – (1) New Identities, (2) Material Culture and Consumption, and (3) Visual Culture – cultural diversity, transnationalism and new forms of community are examined both theoretically and through empirical examples. Graduates have skills in independent academic work, transnational analysis, application of qualitative methods, problem-solving, and international cooperation.
