About this Scholarship

The Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships are granted to approximately 1500 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences, or universities of the arts.

Requirements

  • Applicants must provide proof of the required German language level (at least B2 or DSH 2).
  • They must have excellent school grades and strong academic standing, including first graded proofs of academic achievements if requested.
  • They should demonstrate social engagement and an interest in politics.
  • A convincing justification for applying to the Foundation is required.
  • The Heinrich Böll Foundation offers scholarships to graduates and doctoral students from outside Germany; undergraduate scholarships are only for German nationals.
  • Applications are only accepted online, with deadlines on March 1st and September 1st, and the portal opens about six weeks before each deadline.
  • International applicants must prove good or very good proficiency in German (at least B2 or DSH 2).
